Brach Retinal Vein Occlusion (BRVO)

What is BRVO?

This is the blockage of blood flow in an area where branch retinal vein is crossed by a branch retinal artery, resulting in retinal haemorrhage and sudden blurring or loss of vision in part of the visual field.

Symptoms:

Blurred or loss of vision

Treatment:

Unfortunately BRVO can not be cured but can be managed with treatment to maintain vision. While in some cases, only continuous observations are needed other severe cases may need regular intravitreal injections (Eylea, Vabysmo, Lucentis or Avastin injections into the eye to reduce blood and fluid at the macula). In other cases laser treatment is used to reduce the amount of fluid and blood causing the vessels to shrink and reduce the risk of bleeding.
